2 wire sensors

I'm trying to retrofit a 4 x 8 Gerber Sabre cnc with spindle.

I ran in to an issue wiring the existing proximity sensors to the Masso touch.

Anyone know how to wire them?

If the two wires are brown and blue then connect brown to the Masso +ve supply and the blue wire to a Masso input.

Apparently 2 wire proximity switches pass about 1 mA of current when off and >3 mA when on.

The Masso inputs require about 3 mA before they activate.

I removed one of the sensors.

According to the manufacturer's web-site, your device is a "shield type proximity switch".

Took me a few minutes to realize how these switches actually work - they are a reed switch and magnet in the opposite arms.

These devices are triggered by a piece of iron/steel shielding the magnetic field (doubt that aluminum or copper have sufficient magnetic permeability to trigger).

Treat the two wires as connected to a simple mechanical switch which is normally closed (NC) until triggered (perfect for limit switches providing you are not machining steel).
  • One wire to Masso power supply positive and the other wire to a Masso input.
  • In the Masso F1 screen you will need to invert the input as it should be "active on limit".

Hi there, if you don’t mind @zombieengineer would you mind casting your wisdom over these two wire proximity sensors,
I have a few of them on my mill that Iam wiring up, I just wanted to make sure I connected them properly and don’t do any damage, also not sure if I would need to run a resister on them
I have the FL7M-2K6H
They look like that would be a good thing for others to incorporate into machine builds, they are fairly cheap, easy to mount and seem to be very accurate from what I have read,
I’ve added a link to them
There seems to be numerous ways to wire them, even though they are only two wire and I wasn’t sure what the safest way to connect to Masso would be
