5 Axis Machine Question

Hello, I would very much like to use the Masso 5-axis controller, for an upcoming project.

The build is essentially a 3 axis table with a B/C axis head similar to this one below.

Image result for diy 5 axis cnc

virtually, all the 3 axis machines i have come across have 2 motors on the Y-Axis,

1 for the X-Axis and 1 for the Z-Axis. If i then couple a B/C head with 1 motor for each axis

then i'm going to need to drive 6 motor (one of them a slave).

My question is can a Masso unit with 5 axis controls be configured to run a 6 motor as a slave on the Y?

Many thanks for your time in advance.

Kind Regards

Nick

Hi Guy, Cheers for the link!

I also came across this here after um... trying a bit harder =P

I didn't know this could be done!

One last thing i need to clear up is, the Masso unit has the following axis connections X, Y, Z, A, B

I intend to use the Doughty B/C Drive for the router head. can the A/B axis connections on the Masso be interchanged with the B/C axis?

it might be a dumb question but just in case there is a fundamental kinematics issues in regard to the Masso, that would stop me from what i want to achieve?

Many thanks for your help

Nick

@qwik2

I do believe they can be set up as linear or rotary axis. Masso happens to call them a and b although most rotary 4th axis on a milling machine are called c. I think you can eventually set up your post processor to call the axis names as needed for your application.

Not sure if you have contacted Masso but it might be best too,

Just to get a peace of mind, before you take the plunge!
