ATC Spindle Motor

Any one tried one of these with an ATC. Getting tired of changing out bits and setting Z, especially when all the wood has been machined away. If you had a bunch of tool holders just with the bits in them and calibrated just swap them out. Just thinking about it. What usually gets me in trouble.

Hi Roie,

there are a bunch of videos on youtube where people have set up ,magazines or carousels for an auto tool change and then the machine touches off on a 'touch setting plate' before continuing on with the next part of the operation.

before changing spindles:

what is your current set up? can it be modified to accept a draw bar?

be careful, if you introduce a water cooled spindle as in your link, thats a whole new system to install

how many different tools do you normally call in a program?

I have a router CNC not a metal mill. See attached. I have water cooling already. Machining a two sided, lidded bowl with carvings and legs I can change the bit 6 times. Not 6 different bits.
