Auto Tool Zero Plate Thickness

Hi,

I'm trying to setup auto tool zero to automatically record the offset for my tools under F4. I'm using the same plate (with a wire jumper between the two inputs) for probing, which makes sense and is working.

What I can't wrap my head around is how the thickness of my touch off plate comes into play for auto tool zero.

For probing there is a place to enter the Z-Offset, which makes total sense to me. But there is no such thing for the auto tool zero under F4.

If I zero a tool using a 20 mm thick plate the offset will be different than if I zero the same tool using a 30mm thick plate. But there is no place to define the thickness of the plate, and in another post (https://www.masso.com.au/forums/top...ate-thickness-to-set-zero-at-bottom-of-plate/) Peter said "The toolsetter plate is a reference surface and needs no measurement. It is used to compare tool lengths and calculates the tool offset."

Does that mean it's all relative? If I add a bunch of tools with a 20mm thick plate and then change to a 30mm thick plate to add the next tool I have to redo all the tools with the 30mm plate?

I'm having a hard time understanding how the auto tool zero offset value is of any use for anything unless it knows the thickness of the plate used (or at least the Z-height of the top of the plate where it is placed).

What am I missing?

I was trying to understand it all to preemptively avoid problems. I'll move ahead and just keep an eye out for problems.

It seems there are really 3 places the Z axis height is checked:
  1. Auto zero for tools (just a relative reference so thickness of plate doesn't matter)
  2. Probing for table height (thickness of plate needs to be known by Masso)
  3. Probing for material height (thickness of plate needs to be known by Masso)

Is that correct?

Because #1 and #2 are done at the same location on my machine I was getting hung up on having no place to tell Masso the thickness for #1.
