CAN'T GET THE MASSO ENCODER TO READ RPM OF SPINDLE PULLEY

Hi Guys

Can anyone throw some light onto why I am not getting a spindle RPM readout.

Some details are:

I can switch spindle on and off with M03 and M05

I can control spindle speed under MDI with the command S1500 M03 (example)

The screen shows required speed that I called for under MDI but does not show actual spindle speed

I have connected the encoder to the block marked encoder on the Masso G3 (A B and Z) and the power wire to one of the Masso power blocks and ground to one of the Masso GND blocks

I have replaced the encoder with a spare one in case the first one was faulty

I have the INVERT option set to HIGH on signal A, signal B and index in the F1 screen but have played with other options here to no avail

The spindle pulley sticker has 5 black arcs and 5 white arcs on the outer rim and one black arc on the inner rim for the indexing function

Under the F1 screen, the spindle pulses are set to 5

In the F1 screen, the INDEX input goes low when the inner arc passes beneath the encoder but does not count up the number of revolutions it has made like I think it should???

Does anyone have any ideas that could help me sort this out

Thanks guys

Andre

Dup,

Can't remember if you have lathe or mill version of MASSO but from my understanding the spindle speed ONLY works on the lathe version.

Arie.

Hi @dup

Arie is correct. The Spindle encoder is for Lathe only and is used for Threading.

The following was on the Last software update Email sent out for Lathe.
Please note that the RPM display on the screen will show 0 and not display the RPM from encoder as we are adding more advanced features and this will be available in future releases.

Hope this helps

Hi Rex

I thought it was for Lathe only but I might be wrong on that.

I see it says in the documentation it is for Spindle RPM and Threading on Lathe. I also see the same note about the RPM display not working is on the Mill software update.

Either way it isn't working at the moment, but I will find out if it is meant to work with Mill and let you know.

Hi @pinoy-cnc @dup @breezy

I'm pleased to say I am wrong, the encoder is for use on Mill as well as Lathe, so sorry I put you wrong.

It isn't showing Spindle RPM at present as per the software upgrade note but it will in the future.

Cheers Peter

Thank you all for the quick response. At least I can stop fiddling with something that ain't gonna work and start making chips in stead.

Will wait for the next software release and try again then

Thanks again, guys
