Clearpath MC motor as a spindle drive.

Has anyone got any experience setting up the masso with a clear path MC motor?

I want to run the motor under PWM. I know I can set up the MC to run under PWM. But how do you set up the masso?

Cheers in advance.

Thank you Masso Support.

I have my MC set up with a 3:1 drive. so at 1000 rpm motor speed i get 3000rpm and spindle.

as im now using high helix milling cutter in the stabilized wood i should never need to get to the 12000 rpm he spindle is red for.

but how do i set up my post so that it takes into account the 12000rpm speed at 3:1 drive.

if the masso is set up to out put say 4500Hz for max 3000rpm at the MC that will mean the post will have to see 3000rpm. but that will just mean my chip load is out.

Or if say in the code it says S12000 will the masso put out 4500Hz but the motor has been set up to see 4500Hz as 3000rpm.

So i guess the MC wouldn't care.

Am i way over thinking this?

Cheers

not sure how you would change the RPM for different ratios in CAM, tried to google it but not much luck.

Im going to try it as a masso / clear path program and leave it at that level.

so 100Hz at masso out put = 6000rpm

100hz reviver by MC = = 2000rpm @ 3:1 at spindel so 6000rpm at tool.

there is no place to put a rev counter on the spindle so will let the MC handle it.

leave the fusion cam well alone

So how are you controlling the spindle motor because with MASSO you need to control the spindle rpm using 0-10v output

A document that explains this better than I can type it.

BTW I was looking through the email stream that this relates to and it is how I described it above. so I think the issue is resolved.

I just couldn't remember what was said at the time.

Its all good

Copy of the email that convinced me to go this route.

Hi Simon,

You are correct - the ClearPath motors will run at a closed-loop speed control if you use the MCVC in velocity mode. As a matter of fact, I came across a user who created this video earlier today who appears to have used an MC motor as a spindle (
). It looks like he had an output from the Masso handle the PWM directly, so I don't think they even needed to do a 0-10V conversion.

The video also discusses his entire machine's wiring (including E Stop, step, dir, and enable) for all of the motors to the Masso - I think it's probably worth a watch and it will answer many of your questions. The video was quite detailed (~15 long) and when I listened to it nothing seemed to jump out at me for being technically incorrect. I think Masso may even have some wiring diagrams in their manuals.

thanks for the points and it's now clear regarding your requirments. Yes you can control spindle motor with PWM signals, so do you need a wiring diagram example of the clearpath motor running with MASSO in PWM mode? if so please share the model of the motor and we will make a wiring diagram.

Hi. it seams the hlaps diagram worked fine. thanks for the offer.

I now just got to set the motor up. thanks for the chat.

Please see the attached below and set the motor to FOLLOW DIGITAL TORQUE COMMAND (UNIPOLAR PWM COMMAND)
