DHCP - Static

G3. Version 4.01 (regressed from 4.02 on advice from Peter)

I run my own network and have a fixed IP (class B) with a /21 (255.255.248.0) mask. I check the box for a 'fixed' IP and enter the appropriate numbers. Unfortunately, MASSO insists on DHCP. I do run a DHCP server with a range of leased IPs and I also have a range of static reserved IPs. I entered an IP from the static range (avoiding conflict with DHCP) but, MASSO will not accept the static IP and switches back to DHCP.

It could be argued that a DHCP address is okay as the server will, usually, apply the same IP and mask when the lease needs to be renewed but, that is a general rule and not a fixed rule. So, I have found that MASSO is unreachable on those ocassions when the lease is renewed but a different IP from the dynamic range is applied.

Could this be addressed please?

Hi Robb,

I tested a static address with a /21 mask and it worked fine for me.
It did not return to DHCP before or after a repower and I could can connect MASSO link ok.
Can you let me know the IP address, subnet and gateway address you are using and I will see if it works for me.

Cheers Peter

Hi Peter,

Thanks for your reply.

I have had some problems with getting a fixed IP since I got the G3 but, with patience I have always managed to get it to 'stick'. After I regressed to 4.01, the problem appeared to get worse. However, since your reply I decided to keep trying, rather than giving in. Not having a dynamic IP isn't a sin but, I do like to have my robots well disciplined. You are correct that the system does enable a fixed IP, mask and DG. It doesn't always do it first time (in my case) and I do find that I have to reboot to get it to release the dynamic IP before I can, successfully, untick the 'Fixed' checkbox to re-enter data.

I'll stick with it and thanks again for your attention.

Hi Robb,

You shouldn't have to reboot it to release the DHCP address
When it won't let you select fixed IP it is because the wifi is connected.

Make sure you click the Disconnect button to turn off the WiFi before trying to enter the new settings.
Also make sure you enter and IP, subnet and Gateway.
If you don't enter a gateway it will return the DHCP.

If you let me know the values you are trying to enter let me know and I will give them a try.
Cheers Peter
