DIY build with ATC and sliding tool rack

Hi, I'm from Newcastle Australia. I would like to show my build which I've had running for a couple of years now with over 250 completed cutting jobs. I went with Masso mainly because it supported ATC out of the box and also because a PC was not required. I designed the complete machine in Fusion360 (apart from the tool rack) and had the plates cut in a machine shop. The frame is heavy 80x80 alu profile and the gantry 80x160. I've also designed a lot of parts such as the prox. mounts, chain mounts and dust boot which I had 3D printed for me. There are a few things I'd do differently if I was to do it again but overall, I'm very happy with it. Stepper Online closed loop steppers, Jianken 1.5kW spindle. I only cut wood, and it has no issues at all.

Nice job! Be careful with PVC pipe for your dust collection because of static electricity and dust explosion.

Be careful with PVC pipe for your dust collection because of static electricity and dust explosion.
Hate be a spoilsport but that is not true.
Static electricity will occur on the outside of the pipe, just enough to make your arm hair stand up if you bring it very close to the pipe, not enough to shock you.
As for dust explosion, that requires the right mixture of air / dust and and an ignition source, neither of those occur in home dust collection systems.
Otherwise Clearvue would not be selling their dust collection cyclones.

Hmm... Dust explosions (kind of falls into the teriroty of my day job)

The size of the particle has a big impact on the ability to ignite the powder. The bulk of the material from CNC milling will be "fairly coarse" and the chips are likely to absorb any combustion heat preventing reaching explosive conditions. Dust collection from a sanding machine would be of more concern.

And here the dust collection connections are usually restricted, one 3 or 4 inch pipe, where you need 2 or 3 collections points depending on the width of the machine of 4 inch pipe into a 6 inch pipe to the dust extractor, so not all the dust is collected from the job.

A point I missed in my earlier comment was that the static on the ducting acts as a good attraction force for the floating dust in the air, over time the pipes will be covered in dust.
