DMM Servo Settings

Hello All,

I am progressing well into my build, I have a few questions on the Masso Settings for my DMM DYN4 drives.
  1. Can some one share their settings for the Masso that controls the DYN4 Drives? I seem to be pretty slow and the ramp up to speed takes a bit and a little jerky. I was told by DMM to set my drives at 2000 for gear number and Masso would take 8000 steps per rev. Do I enter 2000 or 8000 in Masso?
  2. I have used the wizard for the distance and all is good that way.
  3. Why does Masso not save the soft limits when I set the zero and max travel per axis? Every time I power cycle it seems to not go off the data I had entered? I do not have my proximity sensors set up yet, is that the issue?
  4. I am still trying to wrap my head around the VFD from Sunfar/ Simphoeinex E550 on what OC is, If you can help out please see my other post as I will not connect until I understand it all ( fear of releasing the Blue Magic Smoke)

Hi Todd

If you have used the wizards and the distance moved is correct then your steps per revolution is correct. If it wasn't it wouldn't move the correct distance.

The Acceleration setting determines how fast your axis gets up to speed.

What values are you trying to enter for your Max and Min soft limit? They should save when you press the save button on screen.
Can you please share a screen print of an axis that is refusing to accept your input as well as the values you are trying to enter and the printable settings file for your machine.

  1. My take on this is that DMM are saying to set your servo driver to 2000 and MASSO to 8000, assuming that there is a 4:1 ratio in the driver step input. Acceleration is controlled by setting in MASSO, generally 20% of max feedrate.
  2. If you change the pulses per rev figure you will need to recalibrate the axis.
  3. Are you actually losing the data in the max min settings in F1 axis screen? How are you homing the machine?
  4. OC is an open circuit collector transistor and is used according to the settings in F1-13. So if you set F1-13 = 8 and connect OC to a MASSO input set to spindle fault. MASSO will shut down if the spindle faults.

Thank you for the quick reply. I have a question about the wizard, does it calculate all the parameters or just the gear ratio for the distance?

I just could not get my head wrapped around what the OC did. I have another question now:
  1. I am running 10:1 gear reduction with 1.5" Diameter 1.5 Module R &P on my X & Y axis that calculate out at 1400 IPM max. I am running my Masso in MM so I converted the 1400 IPM to 35560 MMPM. I assume this is what I put in for max speed?

hi fellow Canadian, hope you are doing well with this Covid thing. I do believe max speed setting would be the fastest you want to allow your axis to run. I'm not sure what type of machine you have but 1400 ipm is a very fast speed not usually used for anything but fully enclosed mills and lathes where the operator can not enter the work area. For an open ( tool room ) style machine they usually limit the rapid speed to 200 ipm, such as the Haas TL2 lathe that I have in my shop. Of course if you have a large plasma or router table you will want the max speed higher to cover the distance more efficiently. It also depends on how well your particular machine performs at high speed. If up to me I would set that to a conservative number then adjust it higher over a period of time until your optimum top speed is determined

Todd,

What you have calculated is the theoretical max speed.

Set the max speed to a safe speed, suitable for your machine to start with, then adjust upwards, at the same time adjust the acceleration.
