Does not touch material after Probing Z axis

I just recently setup my probe/corner finder and ran into an issue with probing the Z axis, When I clicked the center to start probing, its appears to be working as it should by touching the probe and lifting to its original position. The problem I'm having is when I set the Z zero(radio button below) and execute the Z0 command from MDI. The end-mill does not touch the material that I am working on. I had also watched a couple of videos pertaining to probing and have done exactly what was instructed but still remain to have problems not touch the material top surface .

I currently have a 5axis and the B axis is used as a slave and the A axis is currently not being used at the moment.

Also I did see in the forum of an issue that may be similar to mine and was suggested to enter dummy entry on axis not being used. I checked the A-axis and appears have some value. So I am not sure what is wrong. Please Advise. My info MASSO Mill 5-Axis Wi-Fi, Software v3.44 for Serial No. 5A-2601

Thank you
Dante

Hi dijelements

Thanks for the screen print and photo of your table.

Just to Clarify, when you say you press the Z zero radio button which button do you mean?

You should be pressing the Set Z button on the Probing screen and should not touch the Z zero button beside the DRO.

Cheers Peter

Hi dijelements

When you press the Set Z button you will see the Z axis DRO value update to the adjusted value.

Can you please try the following.
  • Use the Probing to set your Z zero point.
  • Go into MDI and enter the command G0 Z0.598
  • slide the touch plate between the tool and the stock and see if the cutter is sitting on the block surface or if it sits above it like it does when do the G0 Z0 in MDI

Let me know the results.

Cheers Peter

Hi dijelements

You have really got me confused now.

So nothing about this makes sense especially the last test results. As I understand it, after you set Zzero using the probing routing if you enter into MDI G0 Z5.98 the Z axis will move down and sit on the surface of the touch plate. If you then go into MDI and type G0 Z0 the Z axis doesn't move but the Z axis DRO updates from 5.98 on the screen to 0

Can you please retest and show me screen prints after the Z5.98 and the Z0 MDI commands.

Cheers Peter

Hi Peter

Again thank for helping. So after doing several tests, here are the results

after I set zero using the probing routing, I entered MDI G0 Z5.98 the Z axis will move down and sit on the surface of the touch plate. The two pictures indicates before and after I hit enter. The third picture shows that it sits on the surface of the touch plate.

Now for the G0 Z0 the Z axis does move just right below the touch plate but the Z axis DRO updates from 5.98 on the screen to 0. The The 4th and 5th pictures indicates before and after I hit enter. The 6th picture shows that it sits on the surface of the touch plate.

Thanks for that dijelements. It makes it a lot clearer.

So as you can see Masso is behaving as expected with the DRO's showing the correct values after each step of the process.

I think the problem here is that the Z axis is not calibrated. That is why the 5.98 is spot on and the 0 is wildly off. You will need to run the calibration Wizard to set your Z axis values to match your machine and then it will work correctly. If you were you jog down to the table surface and set the DRO to 0 then do a G0 Z1 to move it up 1 inch I don't think it would even manage to rise above the height of your 1/2" touch off block with the current settings.
