HLFB Clearpath Motors

Hi there.

Have any users found out how to use the hlfb on the clear paths?

what I mean is, they provide a output that can be useful. The mode can be set in the MSP software.

Im thinking on the SD using the in range mode.

But im not sure which mode to use on the MC which is used as a spindle.

Any ideas?

cheers

I'm being completely blatantly honest but documentation on how to set the hlfb on the inputs or how to wire hlfb is not good having trouble setting up teknic clearpath to operate on masso just to move

This is already documented in the MASSO online documentation:

HLFB => High Level Feed Back, basically a digital output from the motor to the controller.

With reference to the ClearPath user manual:

The ClearPath IO connector has 8 pins which are allocated as:
  • Digital input - Enable
  • Digital input - Input A
  • Digital input - Input B
  • Digital Output - HLFB (High Level Feed Back)

For conformance with machinery safety ("Emergency stop removes all sources of energy from a machine") the Enable input should be driven by the E-Stop signal (Power = OK, Off = shutdown).

When configured for Step & Direction (typical use with the MASSO controller), the inputs are allocated as follows:
  • Input A => Direction
    • MASSO D+ connects to Input A+
    • MASSO D- connects to Input A-
  • Input B => Step
    • MASSO S+ connects to Input B+
    • MASSO S- connects to Input B-
The MASSO controller only has one digital input for an axis motor - "X, Y, Z, A, B Motor Alarm Input"

The HLFB Output can be configured to provide a digital status, available options are dependent on motor configuration:
  • All ClearPath operational modes
    • Servo On - The HLFB output conducts when ClearPath is enable and not in a shutdown state
    • Speed Output - The HLFB outputs a PWM waveform whose duty cycle is proportional to actual speed
    • Pulses Per Revolution - The HLFB sends a number of pulses for each revolution of the motor
    • Measured Torque - The HLFB outputs a PWM waveform whose duty cycle is proportional to shaft torque
  • Positioning Mode (typical mode used with MASSO controller)
    • In Range Position - The HLFB output conducts when ClearPath is enable, not in a shutdown state, and position matches command
    • ASG Position - The HLFB output conducts when ClearPath is enable, not in a shutdown state, and "Move Done"
    • ASG Position Latched - Similar to above, consult manual for details.
    • ASG Position with Measured Torque - ASG Position but PWM for torque while moving
    • ASG Position Latched with Measured Torque - Similar to above, consult manual for details.
  • Velocity Mode (Only used with MASSO controller for spindle motor)
    • In Range Velocity - The HLFB output conducts when ClearPath is enable, not in a shutdown state, and velocity matches command
    • ASG Velocity - The HLFB output conducts when ClearPath is enable, not in a shutdown state, and "At Targe Velocity"
    • ASG Velocity Latched - Similar to above, consult manual for details.
    • ASG Velocity with Measured Torque - ASG Position but PWM for torque while moving
    • ASG Velocity Latched with Measured Torque - Similar to above, consult manual for details.
  • Torque Mode (Not supported by the MASSO controller)
    • ASG Torque - The HLFB output conducts when ClearPath is enable, not in a shutdown state, and "At Targe Torque"
By inspection there is only one HLFB mode that only conveys a motor fault condition when the motor is enabled - "Servo ON". Every other HLFB mode conveys additional information that will be mis-interpretted by the MASSO controller as a fault condition.

The HLFB mode setup is located under the "Advanced" menu of the ClearPath configuration software (just above "Enable Actions...")
