Homing stops before it's home

A new one...

Out of no where my Masso stopped early on the X axis without any sensor input thinking it was now home... Then once the Y axis got home it zoomed over to touch the Z touch plate and smashed into the end of the X axis at good speed.. I checked the sensor for any issues and watched the settings screen and it stopped without it going HIGH... Turned the machine completely off and then on. Same thing, Can run the X axis manually all the way back to it's actual home where the X sensor actually triggers and throws up a hard limit error. Sometimes it moves 100mm before thinking it's home, other times it can move 1500mm+ then just stop...
I'm trying to make y ATC but am worried that it is going to run right into it if this fault can randomly occur.

Hi Mitch

The input screen will not a reliable indication of an input if it is fast. I can manually press and release a switch quickly without the screen changing indication so you could be getting a trigger but not seeing it.

The first question I would like to ask is what sort of homing switch are you using? Mechanical? Optical? Inductive?

How is it wired? eg if it is a mechanical switch is it a normally open contact?

Is the cable shielded to the switches?

Cheers

Peter

Hey mate,

It is the Masso opti switch sensor. I checked it for debris and found nothing on it at all.

Cable is shielded 6 core

NC wired with Masso 24V power.

Hey mate, just realised my opti sensor is for my Y axis not the X which is my issue. I have Hall effect sensors which again are shielded cable.

Any ideas yet?

Hi Mitch

There is nothing that leaps out at me other than one silly question.

Do you have the cable shield grounded at the Masso end only? The shielding of a cable must be connected at one end only.

Are you using 3 of the 6 wires for the +ve, -ve and sensor output?

I know it sounds a silly question but it is amazing how many people go to out of their way to misuse shielded cable, only to make thing 100 times worse.

Cheers

Peter
