Lathe erratic movement.

    • I'm in the Process of retro fitting a 1986 Boxford lathe. I am in the Testing/ Wiring Phase. I was playing with the conversational programing and I cannot get the lathe to move is the Z axis and the X is just moving in and out. I can jog both axis and they both move when homeing the Machine. But I can't get a program to work correctly. Including Is a video of the erratic movement. In this case Z works but X doesn't.

Yeah the Machine homes correctly. I had it working when I first started the Masso up. In my excitement I just entered random Parameters and I had it running the code perfectly. But I had the acceleration too hi and the machine lost steps. Only after I adjusted the acceleration and calibrated the Axis did this problem start. It does the same thing with every Wizard ID OD and Facing. I will get more in-depth once I finish wiring up the Machine properly.

If you share a picture of your axis settings I can take a look and compare to mine tomorrow and see if we can see anything thats not right.

I'm Almost certain it's a post Processing issue with the Masso. I got the machine wired up again today and have taken some more videos.

@andre - from looking at the video it doesn't move in the z direction. The value in the DRO is 0.7mm and doesn't change. I'm not totally sure why its doing that. But the gcode looks fine.

It might be that you have the tool setup wrong and its trying to feed the wrong direction so just moves to the next line of code. Please see the attached picture. You will need to tick where the yellow circle is as your tool post is on the back of the lathe. Please check you settings.

See how you go.

Hi @andre
Are you able to provide a copy of the Gcode file that is not working and also your settings file.

Just go to the F1 screen then under Save & Load Calibration settings click [Save to File]

This will save your machines settings to the USB stick.

Cheers

Peter
