Masso G3 Touch USB & Masso Link Issues

Hi All,

Just wanted to see if any one has had the same issues and if there were able to resolve. I have recently purchased the G3 Touch and fitted it to a Mill. I am currently have issues with:
  • USB connection Issue USB seem to drop out quite regular, I have tried plugging in directly as opposed to the bottom connection but this did not seem to resolve the issue. I have a X-Keys programmed keyboard that I use on my other 2 machines that may contribute to the issue as it became a bit more stable once removed. I do not have this issue on the other 2 G3 with this keyboard, They are only Running software version 4.0
  • G3 Touch Total Freeze, I have had this G3 Touch controller freeze up completely twice, the screen was unresponsive and I had to reboot the MASSO, Has anyone else experienced this?
  • Masso Link 2.0, I have tried to use the new version of the Masso Link 2 with the G3 Touch (V4.01), I have trouble getting it to connect and when it does it seems to freeze up. I had to stop the Mill part way through a program cycle, Masso link froze at the 80% mark and would not update, I had to reboot. I have stopped trying to use the Masso Link with the Touch and reverted back to manually loading it onto the USB. I am currently using Masso link 1.6 with my other G3 (V4.0) and it seems to be quite robust. Please advise if there is anything you can suggest to resolve

G3 Touch Usage:

Overall at the moment, I find the Touch unit quite good, it is a bit tight on the inside for connection additional devices, but overall a good work flow.
  • If using the screen in portrait mode, during a program, is it possible to adjust the Spindle/Feed rates without and external keyboard while in the F2 screen. Is there future plans to include a slider for Spindle and Feed rate like on the F3 Screen for during a program. Is there an easy way that I am missing? I know it can be done with the F11, F12, - & + keys.
  • When a new software version needs to be installed, I believe, currently you need to power cycle the Masso and Press F1 repeatably, can this be done on the touch without an external keyboard.

Hi damomac

The USB disconnection and freezing sounds like you may have noise or grounding issues. The external keyboard you plug in may act as an antenna. It is hard to tell and this is only a guess.
We do not have reports of others having this issue with the touch at this time.
Are you able to run your machine without the spindle running for example and just do air cuts. See if the issue only happens when the spindle is running.

MASSO Link V2.0 does have an issue with disconnecting and this will be fixed in the new update out soon.

Speed and feed rate override currently require an external keyboard as the on screen keyboard does not have F11 & F12 keys.
A review is planned for the Touch keyboard to resolve this.

The best way to adjust Feed and speed is by using the pendant. Press F11 or F12 as required and turn the MPG to dial in the required setting.

To load the software you do not need a keyboard. Just continuously tap the touch screen immediately on power up and MASSO will enter the software load screen.

Cheers Peter

@raynow - I thought you were meant to use the external USB port:

@raynow

Please confirm your email report to Support, that you can "see" and read the USB when all inputs and outputs (Spindle & Axes) are disconnected.

Arie.

I have the same issue with my USB disconnecting reconnecting etc. I have tried several (reputable) brands and just shows then disappears. I have formatted to fat 32 on each device. I have also done straight from the masso and via the touch USB port same deal.

The most common cause of USB dropout is RF noise.

MASSO is used in a noisy electrical environment, with electrical noise generated by plasma, spindle VFDs, stepper motors and anything else that can be noisy electrically.
So it is important to ensure that the wiring is of high standards regarding shielding and grounding, this is more so with the Touch unit as it is mounted some distance away from the rest of the control equipment.

There have been several cases of damage to the Touch units because of ground loops.

Arie.
