MASSO relay output

Mr. Ben
My machine has been running good now for some time. Yesterday I powered up, homed the machine, turned on the spindle, spindle coolant on, when I turned mister on, everything shutdown. Would not respond to any more M codes, MASSO was locked up. I pulled the relay output wire, feeding the mister relay, and rebooted the machine. Powered up, all running good. Went to F1 toggled the relay output for the mister to H and everything shut down. Remember there is now NOTHING connected to THAT output. The relay is coil is rated @ 103 ohms, 117ma, at 12V, which is well under the 400ma spec for relays. Digikey part no 255-1828-ND.

Did I break it? If so, how do I fix it? Do you recommend I add fly-back diodes to all relay coils?

Thanks for your help.

  1. At what output did you had the relay wired to?
  2. What's the power supply rating that you are using to run the MASSO and relay?

Yes we do have protection diodes on all relay outputs.

Well, I spent a couple hrs going over my wiring and connections. Also measured resistance of relay coil (105 ohms). I could find nothing wrong. I fired up the machine and could NOT duplicate the problem! Did I fix it by pulling and tightening things? I doubt it. Yesterday, with the relay output wire DISCONNECTED from the MASSO, I could shut the spindle down by using F1 and inverting the relay output signal to H. How is the spindle and the relay output #4 have anything to do with each other? I could home the router and the spindle would then run with relay output #4 At L.

I'm new at CNC. I welcome suggestions from anyone. Please.

so you are saying is that the relay output 4 is connected to mist and after disconnecting this relay if you goto F1 screen and select relay output 4 and press space key then the spindle also stopped?

The reason that the spindle will stop is that when anything is saved to the controller memory the spindle is stopped, when you press space to invert the pin, this is saved to the memory so that its loaded on next power up, this save to memory will internally stop the spindle.

you dont have to clear any memory, its just that when you save any settings in F1 screen then the spindle will stop.
