Masso, S30 Spindle and Hitachi

Hi team. I've recently just build a cnc router with a g3 controller and a s30 spindle. I thought I would use this instead of the Chinese spindle on my old router. I'm now having some issues with the wiring to get the spindle running in forwards and reverse. I've got a Hitachi NES-1 vfd which I have programmed for the spindle to be run from the control panel at the front but with the wiring the same as on the Masso documentation I still can't get m3 or m4 to start the spindle. Wiring is exactly the same as the documentation and I have checked it around 30 times. If anyone has any recommendations please let me know as I would love to get this going.

Thanks

Hi Marty,

As part of the Masso VFD documentation is a video that takes you through the install process for a VFD.
The very first part of this is testing the VFD to make sure it is correctly configured because if it isn't it will not work no matter how you wire it.
Have you tested the VFD is correctly configured and manually tested the FWD, REV and speed control signals to make sure it is ready to connect to Masso.

I recommend watching the video first and see if there are any steps you have missed. For instance many people will try M3 & M4 without issuing a speed command so the spindle will not turn because the speed is 0.

Hope this helps
Cheers
Peter

Hi Marty,

This is the same setup I ll likely be going with when I m at the spindle stage of my build, though I have some reservations about using ISO30 toolholding instead of BT30 , but that s another story.

I m not sure which version of the S30 spindle you re using probably the 2-pole version but you might check out this fella s videos on YouTube he is using a similar setup as you (except he uses the 4-pole front mount version of the spindle), and he gets into great detail about the configuration settings of the spindle and VFD.

Hey, legends. After conversations with Masso support its found that the wiring diagram is wrong. The wiring for forward and reverse needs to be reversed and then it worked fine. Thanks, everyone for the quick replies!
