MASSO STILL FREEZING

OK, up and running, everything seems to be good, BUT, while jogging, MASSO will freeze in two ways.

One, while jogging, then releasing the input the machine stops but then the screen is frozen and the system is locked up

Two, while jogging, then releasing the input the machine continues to jog in that direction until it hits a limit switch.

It does it almost predictably, IE within minutes of jogging the machine around its envelope. Last time was bringing the Z down, thankfully there was no tool in the spindle.

the only way to restore control is to restart (power cycle) MASSO.

conductors to the motor drives are shielded and grounded. Everything else is simple switches for limits, estop etc. 24v power supply form the machine is stable as far as I can tell.

No auto too change.

I can MDI full travel at full rapid speed back and forth and I haven't gotten it to freeze yet, also been running a small program without a hitch.

It only seems to occur when jogging, then after restart, it usually freezes during one of the axis homing, restart, another homing freeze until its normal again.

any insights?

G3-5935

3.42.2

Just bumped a soft Z limit testing a program, got alarm, did a home sequence, then freeze.

There is also no error light on MASSO or the drives.

Hey guys, need to bump this up.

this repeatable and predictable freezing behavior is getting annoying. Thank God it doesn't seem to do it while a program is running.

I think I'm going to post a video so you can all see. Again this morning, it froze while jogging Y to the other side of the work piece, let go of the keys and it kept going to the hard limit, DRO stops counting, mouse won't move, E-Stop doesn't stop it. That's real dangerous.

cheers?

OK, so ironic

home sequence is ZXY

installed 3.43, homed it, froze on Z, first time that ever happened on Z, not looking good!

restart

re home, OK

jog full X and Y 8' x 5'

do that 7 times no problem, that is a first, thinking OK, maybe its a little more stable, the 8th try, freeze

restart

freezes during homing again

restart

re home

jog X again to limit, at 63" the screen freezes, no mouse movement, DRO frozen, gantry still traveling, hit estop, nothing, gantry still moving, finally stops at limit switch, yikes! Yes, E-stop works as it should when MASSO not frozen.

So, no improvement.

using Wantai NEMA 34 1700 oz in closed loop steppers with their supplied power supplies, I do not have any fault detection wired to MASSO. motor pulsing at a conservative 1600

I did run a program today the used the entire machine envelope of 8' x 5' feet without a hitch.

John,

Don't know how you have wired the Estop, but it's not working correctly. Masso Estop output (relay pin7) is wired directly to the Estop input it is not controlled by the processor, so even if MASSO is unresponsive to other control inputs the Estop should kill all movement.

I have MASSO Estop relay output control a relay which disables the Gekko drives and when I press the Estop button the Gekko shows a fault condition and kills power to the stepper motor.

Regards,

Arie.

OK, uploaded a video so you can see for your self. What can be causing this? this is a pretty generic installation, nothing fancy at all. Give it a few minutes to finish processing.

You are correct in one sense, it doesn't work correctly when the MASSO freezes.

Looking at the wiring diagram in the MASSO documentation it is correct. If I press E-Stop under normal conditions, IE a program running, the machine stops dead as it should. So??

@johnharvey thanks for the video and the settings file. we loaded the same settings file and ran some tests, the settings look ok.

will you be able to talk on phone or skype sometime so that we can do some tests while you are next to the machine? please email your phone or skype ID on support email, your timezone info and a good time to talk.

can you also try to unplug the wifi module and then run the machine.

we are trying to run the same settings on our controller and moving the X-axis as per your video but can't replicate the issue, there were a few reports about wifi low signal causing issues and we are looking into it, so it's worth trying without wifi.

if you can do Wechat we can talk and see the machine behavior at the same time on my android phone.
