Max Steps per Revolution Masso can handle?

Does anyone know if there is a maximum steps per revolution the Masso can handle? I'm setting up clearpath servos on my router and have the option of setting them anywhere from 800-6400 pulses per revolution.

Any input or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Hi Bryan,

With Masso it isn't steps per revolution but maximum pulse rate showing at the top of the screen. You are limited to 110Khz but keep it lower.

On a rotary axis try and keep it around the 60Khz mark or less. Realistically going too high is a waste of time and will overload the processor as it tries to generate 6.6 million pulses per minute to turn the axis. To put it into perspective, your 1 meter diameter project you are turning the circumference will move less than 0.5 micron per step.

Mine is set 10000 pulses per revolution. 2000 at the stepper motor and 5:1 gear reduction giving 10000/revolution at the output. I then increase the maximum feedrate to bring it close to 60Khz because I want some speed.

I have attached a copy of my rotary axis settings and my axis calculation sheet to help you figure it out.

Hope this helps

Cheers Peter

Thanks Peter!

I'm not setting up a rotary axis at the moment, hopefully sometime soon I will be adding a 4th-Axis.

The spreadsheet and logic you provided for keeping the Khz lower is what I wasn't understanding at first, now that I have the distance per revolution for my lead-screw and drive pulses per revolution correct for the motors.

It was just a matter of picking my max feed rate keeping the Masso's maximum 110Khz as not to overload the processor, once I had those variables I just played with the acceleration until I was happy with the movements. I ended up with all three axis's at 64.0Khz, I played with these setting for hours, constantly testing different configurations just see how each effected one another. I'm not sure I'm finished playing with them yet! It's actually fun once it makes sense.

How did you pull a screen shot off the Masso?

Just press print screen key on your keyboard. MASSO dumps a screen print onto you USB stick.

Regards,

Arie.
