MDI Input Entry

I do most of my work with the table surface at zero. I do however get some odd repetitious jobs when I need to input the top surface/thickness of the material and work from that angle. So having searched with no luck on MDI commands, how do I enter Z 75mm for example. It was easy on Mach 3 but Im never going there again.

Thanks Carl

So lets say your machine bed is Z0.00 and you job thickness is 5mm, now you want to set the top of the job as your Z0.00.

Simply move the Z axis to Z5 by giving G0 Z5 command in MDI then towards the top right of the screen click Z zero button and this position will be set as your Z0.00

So the scenario is:

I get given 100 blocks. Each are a between 74.5mm and 76mm. Varios thicknesses. Each block requires a 20mm deep pocket in it. Its too much work to enter workpeice thicknesses into my CAM system when i can just tell the machine the top surface is 75mm. I can adjust my cam program to read top of work peice but like to leave it as is. With Mach 3 I'd bring the Z down to top of job, type 75 and go for it.

@masso-support....did you mean to say to input G0 Z5 in the MDI then zero the DRO, instead of G0 Z0? Giving G0 Z0 will put him back at his bed.

True that.

yes you can just move the tool tip to the top of the workpiece and then set that as any location for Z. Let's say your job is 65mm in heigh, you touch the workpiece on the top and then issue G92 Z65 MDI command, this will make this top position as your Z 65 and bottom of the work piece as 0

You can also use a simple touch plate to automatically do this, will save you a lot of time, please see this link: https://www.masso.com.au/docs/masso-cnc-controller-documentation/touch-probes-plates/touch-plate/
