Need some help

I am having trouble with post processors, I have BobCad. I have my lathe working, but I need a program made of a simple turning test piece to load in my masso to see how my lathe will work under control of a g-code prog. So if I could get someone to make me a simple turning prog.would be greatly appreciated. If someone does this the collet on my lathe will only hold 1 1/4 inch Dia. material, don't hace a chuck yet. So if you would make a program with two different diameters and a angle cut.

It would be a great improvement if you could type in more than one line of gcode in MDI on the Masso.

Thanks

Jim

I loaded your prog. it came up on the screen, set my tool, tried to run prog. it started mach. went to home position then I get a error in x axis. Would you have any suggestions.

I live in Michigan USA . Where are you located? Maybe we could connect by phone. Thanks for the help.

Hello Jim - I'm on the westcoast of BC.

First thing.... I'm no expert. I have struggled a LOT getting the Masso lathe application to work. All I can offer is my solutions that got my lathe running for me.

#1 Axis direction. Mine is a front mounted tool holder as shown below. Z = Positive direction away from the spindle. X = Positive away from spindle center-line (toward operator).

#2 In the Masso tool settings, I had to set my tool orientation on backside of the work (Lie to it) or the axis goes the wrong way and throws an over travel alarm.

This got me running.

Cheers

The prog. you sent It loads into my Masso but it don't run. My lathe the tool is on the backside . Could you walk me through the sequence to run the prog. The only movement I get is if I push the go back to starting position .

Thanks Jim

Hi Jim - Have you tested all functions with MDI?
  1. Spindle start CW & CCW at given RPM?
  2. X & Z axis movement at given distances and directions?
  3. Does the lathe "Home" correctly?
  4. Have you set positions in Z (G54) and X (Tool diameter touch in tool menu)
  5. When "Return to Origin" pressed, does the machine return to the above set positions?

Considering your tool is on the opposite side of center as mine. you will need to edit M3 to M4 in the program.

I got the prog. to run, went back and reset tool. My lathe has a gear head you have to set the RPM. The whole prog. ran, the only thing I need help with now is the x axis ran about two inches off the stock. The screen numbers said it was down on the stock. So what do I have set wrong? This is my first try at cnc turning, always ran a three axis mill.

Thanks

@jim-in-michigan - sounds like you didn't setup the tool correct. You need to make sure you're on the correct tool number before you zero the tool and make sure the program shows the correct tool number.

I got your prog. to run. I had to change the feed rate, you were running at 1500 rpm, at this time I can only get 650 rpm at this time. I need to get a larger phase converter, two speed motor 2.5 hp on low speed 5hp on high speed, running now with a 3hp phase converter. So thanks very much for your prog. and things to check why it wouldn't run.

Thanks

Jim
