Parts to get Started

Hello,

I have jumped from pre made CNC machine like the Xcarve and now am on a larger format. I need a controller to push nema 34 motors. The kit that I could have got with this machine was the same as avid CNC. I saw the Masso and wanted to dive in but not sure what all I need to build a controller.

I have 4 axis now but would want 5th in future. The machine is Rack and pinion and 4x8. I still need to get nema 34 motors for it and found these on stepper online.

  1. 1-CL86Y-34HE46, For (XY Axis)
  2. Search for ; 1-CL86Y-34HE31- For (Z Axis)

Machine I have here is link

Any help or direction would be appreciated as I am new on this side of CNC.

Time, patience and lots of stupid little bits from eBay.

But yea, Massso should work fine with it. I say should only because I've seen a few users here have issues with the Leadshine based drivers like yours.

So what parts? Obviously the Masso, but what type of power? Stuff like that. I love seen things built crazy and things simple. I guess I m asking what are the basics/essentials and what would you suggest? Like I know I needed a gantry and router etc etc. Any links would be awesome.

I am running leadshine drivers and nema 34 1200 oz motors on my mill, 4 axis with no problems. Mill is 1800kg, so a big unit, am also running 25mm ballscrews.

I see. Looking at the spec sheets, the motors are rated at 6A. Running at 48V, you ll need at least a 300W supply for each. I would get 350W to be safe. For some reason, the Z axis is also rated at 6A. Stepperonline have 350W 48V supplies but if you want to save some money (while getting a good brand supply), there s these: https://a.aliexpress.com/_d6snjGm

You ll need a power supply for Masso and peripherals. A 24v 10A supply should be enough.

You want to get homing sensors. That table has mounts for the inductance screw type. Like these: https://a.aliexpress.com/_dUYW9ea

Goes without saying you ll need somewhere to contain all the electronics and in case you haven t guessed you ll also need lots of cable, earth wire, crimp connectors, bootlace ferrules, soldering bits, heat shrink, cable ties, multimeter, etc etc.

Yea, you will also need fuses and a terminal block of some sort to distribute power in the box. I would watch this whole video if I were you, it gives you the basics:
