Probe error

Hello everyone,

I am trying to use probing for the very first time. I am using a z touch plate and it's connected as required by the masso. When i use tool auto zero then the machine follows the command and i am able to successfully run the tool zero cycle. But when i try to do it manually with probing button on the masso screen it shows probe error. I followed the exact instructions as shown by Peter on Cnc nutz but i am unable to figure out the problem.

Probe error usually indicates the the probe input is already high when you press the probe function buttons.

Check that the probe input on the F1 screen changes to high when you manually touch the probe plate to the tool in the spindle.

If this is not occurring then check your wiring. As you have already proved that the tool is connected to MASSO -ve with the ATZ.

Regards,

Arie.

Hi Sourabh

I have found 5 problems that cause can a probing alarm condition either directly or indirectly.
  1. The probe is already high before probing starts.
  2. You do not have a probing input signal assigned to an input. This not the same as the toolsetter input.
  3. Your soft limits settings don't allow the necessary travel of the Z axis to do the probing.
  4. Not homing your machine before doing a probing cycle.
  5. Having your Z axis set backwards to move up with -ve coordinates and down with +ve coordinates.

Notes:

No.2 if you want to use the same same Touch off block for probing then assign an input as Toolsetter and another as Probe signal and then connect the 2 inputs together. This way you can use the same touch off block.

No.3 is related to no.2 as not homing your machine will limit it's travel by half.

You don't mention in your initial description at what point you get the alarm. Is it at the beginning before anything moves or is it while it is moving? Without this information it is hard to advise where to concentrate your efforts but because each item is easy to test it won't take long to check them all

Hope this helps and please let us know your findings.

Cheers

Peter

Thanks a lot for your help. I changed the tool setter input to probe input and now it works fine. Sorry for the silly trouble.

I'm glad you got it sorted but I just want to check if you are also using the AutoZero feature for setting your tools.

If you are and you do not have a Toolsetter configured then when you home your machine it will stall when it completes homing the X.Y & Z axis.

If you want to use both features then you need 2 separate inputs.

If you want to use the same touch off plate for both features as I do, then connect the 2 inputs together.

Cheers

Peter
