Proma pierce, nothing else.

I have been experiencing the same issues with my polabs THC. I discovered that my issue is caused by electrical noise generated by my servo drives. I am installing ferrite chokes now, and changing the drive grounds to eliminate the noise.

cncburn,

That is where I am now replacing all the wiring with shielded wires.

I am thinking if a whole new layout for the control box to lower the noise interference.

Where I am at the moment!

Plasma arc OK set to High.

I still can't get my plasma to cut, On a 20mm circle it does the pierce, lead in, then just 1/4 of the circle then won't go any further (some times it might run off in a different direction by a few millimeters before it stops.

I think it might be electrical noise, but I have to wait for some stuff from China to arrive!

"More shielding to do and if that doesn't work will have to shift the Masso to a remote part of the room"

Photo of control box innards and drawing of new idea.

If anyone has any ideas, I would like to here from you.

wow, the 3D designs looks mad!

Have you tried cutting without the PROMA, I think you should first try cutting without PROMA and then once you know everything else works fine then finetune the PROMA.

Will give it a go tomorrow and see if it works!

I have ordered a longer plasma lead 7.5m and thinking of putting the plasma machine far away from the controller.

Hope to have it this week.

Plus I am still thinking of different ideas for the control box "style and a different location"

Will do these things and then do a post to let you know how it all goes!

Picture shows were the plasma and control box sits, I think they might be too close and might cause electrical noise.

Just glad I don't work for a living, more time to play with this!

Ross,

I just completed a re-wire and I am no longer getting the interference that I had with my PoLabs THC. I ended up tying the AC grounds back to one source in my control panel. That resulted in slightly less noise. Then I pulled out all of my DC wiring, and replaced it with shielded twisted pair for almost all of the DC circuits. On one end of the shielded wires, I bonded the "drain" wire to the control panel via din rail grounding terminals. On the other end, I cut the shield back and exposed the twisted pairs, then I wrapped them around a ferrite chokes. This seems to have resolved most of my issue so far.

BTW, I love your set up. It looks great!

cncburn,

Good to here that your machine is working better.

As for me I am still waiting for parts from china, Not happy they haven't posted the plasma machine head and lead yet.

will post photos when I get the stuff and wire it all up.

if your plasma cutter is HF start it will put noise in the electronics use a non HF start I build tables I always try them with a pen and draw first that way I know my table ans its controller is good . then fire the plasma use all shilded wires on all motor controllers and motor ground only 1 end

also make sure your gantry in sounded along with table and connect it to a ground rod in the ground

rember plasma cutter is positive ground not neg

Hi all,

Still got a few things to rewire and have used ferrite chokes and shielded wires on anything associated with the plasma.

Hope to do a test run in a few days.

Will update with the outcome of the test.

Thanks to all with helping me with this.

Some more photos, New control box in the making separate power just for the THC and plasma trigger plus the plasma far away from controller.

Can see the new machine cutting tip lying on top of the X gantry! "Not finished MIG air solenoid valve dyed today".

Hi Ross, hope it is going well. Having the same problems with my system as well. I am running a PRICE avhc unit and my table cuts fine with the THC off in F1, and I can see the signals for up/down/arc okay go from low to high in test mode and are in the right inputs, but on start the torch will pierce and just sit there running then it will give the NO arc okay fault. Every once in a while the torch will fire on cycle start instantly and stay on running with no motion. I thought it was interference so I wrapped my plasma on/off relay in aluminum foil with a wire to case ground and that seemed to help. My plasma is a longevity 62i and it has its own ground to a rod 3ft in the ground. My electronics case, Thc case, Table, and gantry all have their own ground path. All my motor wires are shielded, wires inside the electronics case are shielded too. With no Thc and no arc okay in F1 it cuts fine, its when I turn on thc in F1 thats when I have a problem. My Price avhc shows the proper voltage from the 50 to 1 divider when cutting and I checked and it is sending up/down/arc okay signals to the masso. I am following your progress hoping it will give me some insight to my problem even though I have a different THC. Good luck- Ben

Well Ben, I think my problems are over! :) But I don't get movement of the Z axis in test mode with the THC.

I use the Proma 150thc But I am thinking have you got you ark OK set to high, that works.

If mine is set to low it moves to start position fires the pilot ark for about 3 seconds before moving the x down to the job, Then it does a full dry run.

If I need to do a practice run with the plasma machine off "I need to F1 turn thc and ark ok off".

All wiring to do with the plasma is shielded and I have a separate power supply for the Proma but you have to run a piggy back wire to the Masso power supply, I use "24v to 24v + to +, - to - "one off each. and choke these wires as well.

I even took the advice from another member and grounded the X gantry to the table.

Good luck from Ross.

Ps; If you get frustrated with it just choke it some more!!
