Setting up linear and rotary axis

Hi Guys

Thought I would share this spreadsheet I wrote for calculating the number of pulses for setting up Masso. You can open it in either Excel or Open office.

Download and open the spreadsheet. Select the worksheet that describes your setup and change the values in red. The Values in blue are what you write into your axis.

They can be refined further using the built in wizards but it provides a starting point to get going. There are sheets for metric and imperial, leadscrew and rack & pinion as well as the rotary axis which is neither metric or imperial.

Hope this helps and if you have any questions please comment below.

Cheers

Peter

Peter,

Nice, but you could added a note for axis that are connected via toothed belts, where there is no reduction gearing, to use the rack & pinion sheet with ratio of 1:1.

Arie.

Hi Arie

I'm not sure you I follow you on this one. If you use a toothed belt the reduction is based on the pulley size on the stepper compared to the pulley on the other end.

For example my rack and pinion drives use toothed belts and pulleys giving a 3:1 reduction.

If you use a toothed belt to drive the axis the root diameter of the pulley will determine the distance moved like in rack and pinion.

What is it that I'm missing.

cheers

That is what I was referring to.

When I first looked at your spreadsheets I thought where is belt driven axis, then I realized that was equivalent to a rack & pinion without any reduction gearing.

Also could you make the spreadsheet available in the Axis Calibration document page.

Arie.
