Spindle Control Issue

I've run into an issue with my G3 Masso controller. The spindle output control has failed after a very short time (like only a few minutes) of being connected. It worked perfectly at first but then it suddenly failed to respond. Now when I set Spindle RPM followed by pressing CW or CCW on F2 screen nothing happens. Same nonresponsive result when I enter SXXXX followed by M3/M4 in MDI or a NC program. The CW and CCW buttons on F2 don't activate and the spindle doesn't turn on.

I did all the usual checks making sure the VFD works using an external pot and verified the connections are correct. When I cycle between Hi/Low on the CW and CCW outputs in the F1 screen the Masso relay card is actuating properly. S1000 M3 or M4 MDI Input does nothing. I have Spindle Pin 1 connected to VFD Analog0-10v Input and Masso ground connected to Analog Input Common pins exactly the same way as I had it on my G2 controller.

Unless you have another solution to offer I think it's a hardware failure of the Masso controller. Is there a Masso-approved repair service company here in the USA or do I need to return it to the Masso factory for repair?

@breezy

Attached are the photos of my controller as requested. I couldn't spot any damage but maybe you will see something in these. As you can see in the photos I used the Masso Relay Card to control the CW and CCW signals because the connections to my BLDC Drive is a little different than the usual wiring arrangement. The attached wiring diagram gives you an idea of how I connected the Spindle to BLDC Drive which the same as I had working on my G2. I can probably have the board repaired at work if we can identify the damaged component or outline a way to trouble shoot the components.

Thanks for your help.

@testyourdesign thanks for the detailed info and as per your tests it looks like some settings or software issues only and not a hardware issue.

can you please load your G3 settings file in this forum topic?

Hi Stephen,

I loaded your settings file and to my surprise I found that I could not turn the spindle on and off just like you reported.
Then I notice the tool number loaded into my machine Tool 0 PROBE

I'm suspecting that you have the same issue.
In the F1 settings page you have Tool 0 set as your probe.

If you have the probe loaded you will not be able to start the spindle as the designated probe tool prevents this.
Either change the tool T1 M6 or change the designated probe in the F1 screen and I think you will fine your spindle will start working again.
Let us know how you get on and if this solves your problem.

Cheers
Peter

@cncnutz

Dummy proofed! With tool 1 selected everything works as expected. I completely forgot about that updated safety protocol. Sorry to have taken up some of your precious time helping Masso users with real problems. Thankyou for taking time to test it for me.

Time to go make some chips!
