Tool Offset Problem

Hello, I am having trouble with my tool offsets.

I have a HTG5A1S running V3.474.4 software.

I have chosen to measure all my tool heights in relation to my z axis probe. My probe is 0.0 and my tools are offset from it.

When I load a program, I home the machine. I then zero the X, Y and Z axis with my probe. I then rewind the program. Press cycle start and then is requested to change my tool to the first tool for the first operation. I remove the probe and then install the first tool required for the first operation.

I press cycle start and the tool goes to the probe Zero Height. It is not being offset by the Z offset information in the tool offsets page for that tool. It's as though it is not accessing the Z offsets information. I have tried several tools with the same result. I have changed the negative before the Z axis offset for that tool with the same result.

How do I get Masso to utilize the Z axis offsets.

Please Help.

Thanks

George.

Hi George

If your tool is being measured whenever you change a tool then you have auto tool zero turned on.
Remove the Tick from "Enable auto tool zero" and it will use the tool table.

Your software is also out of date as 3.49 is the current version for the G2.
You can download the latest from your myWorkshop portal.

Hope this helps

Hello Peter, I have studied all your videos and found them to be very helpful and easy to follow.

I have not ticked 'enable auto tool zero'. I have a tool setter but its not large enough to cater for my fly cutters.

I have pre measured all my tools and manually loaded this information into the Tool Z offsets. When I set up my tooling database I started with my Z axis Probe tool and then zeroed the z axis. The probe is the longest tool I have. I then measured each tool and manually typed in the Z offset in relation to Probe tool.

When I start a new job I home the machine. I then locate x and y zero location. I use my probe then to find my Z zero.

I don't understand why masso does not use the Z offsets in the database.

Could it be because I did not use the ZERO button and instead manually typed in the Z offset dimensions.

Am I doing all this the right way? Are all your tools offset from your Z axis probe as this is the first tool to be used?

Thanks for your prompt response.

Keep up the good work with the videos.

Cheers

George.

Hi George,

All tools are measured relative to a fixed point. It might be the table surface in your case or a dial indicator.
With Auto Tool Zero it is the touch off point.

That is probably the problem. You should use the Zero button and I think it will put the machine coordinate value into the table though with a higher degree of accuracy than reading the screen.
When it comes to adding the Auto tool zero into the equation things start to get really strange.
The Z offset is now a calculation based on auto tool zero position at the time of homing, Machine coordinates, working coordinates and phases of the moon. ;-)
It seems like it anyway. I did work it out and trust me when I say that pressing the zero button is much easier.

Do a backup of MASSO before you start and it will save all your current tool data so you can load it back in later if I'm wrong.

Let me know how it goes.
Cheers Peter
