Tool Setter Ground and Resistor

For anyone having problems setting up their tool setter here are two observations I'd like to share:
  1. Make sure your touch block is grounded back to the Masso G3 ground one way or the other (directly or indirectly). My Masso ground was separate from the machine ground and I couldn't get the tool setter input to show any change in high / low when I would ground out the wire going to the input. Then I tried it on the Masso ground and it worked. Doh! I've probably been fighting this for a while...
  2. For adding the inline resistor an easy, robust way to do it is to solder the resistor into a 12v automotive style inline fuse holder (without a fuse installed). If you just wire it inline the leads and resistor are fragile and it may break at some point. I have mine connected to a 24v terminal block using a ring terminal, so the wire thickness wasn't an issue. If you're going into the 24v on the Masso you'll probably have to solder some smaller wire on to make the final connection.

Party on.
