I'm on the home stretch of converting a small benchtop mill over to Masso from linuxCNC. The machine currently has tools manually changed via tormach tts style holders but will start on building a tool changer after I can work out the last few bugs.
What i'm confused on currently is the workflow with a "tool touch plate" and also using a probe. I feel like I must be missing something but Masso does not appear to want you to turn on the machine then after homing issue tool change commands as it just errors out. It also seems if you use a tool touch plate you don't set Z height on the tool? Are people with a probe and a tool touch plate (the type that the plate is sprung running their probe into the tool touch plate to get its effective length?
What I was hoping to do is run this like a traditional VMC where I could insert a tool and touch it off and have that store the info in the tool table...then next time that tool is called it DOES NOT touch off unless it was programmed to do so in CAM. I was also hoping to manually swap my probe into the spindle and use the probing screen to touch off my WCS then be able to manually change the tool out to another tool (like tool 1) since I don't plan to ever put my probe in the tool changer as its wired.
