TOOLS DISAPPEARING FROM LIBRARY

Ive been having an issue with me G3 before and after the 4.0 update, where tools disappear from my library on the controller..

Any light someone can shed would be greatly appreciated!

How repeatable is the problem? (if you were to "cut air" several times will it happen again?)

Are you able to save your controller settings from the F1 screen and reload after the tools disappear? (not sure if the tools are captured in a parameter save/restore).

If you can provide a repeatable example (g-code file, controller parameters) then send it to Masso support to investigate. Repeatable issues are easy to fix.

FYI - You can create screen captures in Masso using the <Print Screen> button or <CTRL>+P, the screen capture will be saved to your USB drive.

We experienced similar problems with G2 model when we filled up the tool table. Back then it was a memory issue that resulted in a reduction of available tools from 99 to 32. I haven't had this exact problem yet with the G3 but i could swear one of my tool length settings was erased when i ran parts last week. The result cost me $40 end mill. I chalked it up to user error but now you have me wondering it that was not the cause.

So far this is not repeatable.

Back before I updated from 3.48 to 4.0 I noticed that my TOOL 1 spot on window F4 was blank, so I filled it back in with the tool information. I noticed this happening at least twice.

Now with 4.0 I noticed the TOOL 3 and TOOL 8 were blank. I dont make any changes and only have 11 tools listed.

Currently I am only doing manual tool changes with my ATC and I have tool probe that measures before each operation, so I am not using the off-sets.

I have filled out the table again and saved it, and will check in regularly to see if I can determine what is going on.

Stay tuned, and thanks!

Hi Jeff,
At anytime when you changed tool did you encounter a problem that required you to stop the tool change part way through. Maybe using the Estop.
Anything at all that you can think of will help track this down.
I have looked at this in the past and know that when your turn on MASSO and a tool is missing it is because whatever caused it actually happened when it was last used.
It isn't necessarily the last tool change you made either. It can be the first or one in between.
Anything out of the ordinary that you can think of that might have occurred when changing tool would be appreciated.

Cheers Peter

Hello Peter, the answer to your first question is "I think so" .

I know that I have had to stop operations in the past, and then it was possible that a tool was changed prior to moving on.

I will keep an eye on things a little closer and make notes.

Thank you so much for your input.

All the best!

Hi Jeff,

Just wanted to let you know that I did some testing and have found a method of loosing a tool that is repeatable. I don't know if it is the same one that has been causing your problem but I have documented the issue I found for investigation. If you do come across anything please let us know. The issue I found is related to Z axis limit alarms. I mention this in case it triggers any thoughts and is another thing to consider as well as Estops and phases of the moon when taking notes.
Are any of the tools you lost a probing tool as defines under the Probe on the F1 Screen?

Cheers

Sorry to bring up an old thread but I am having an issue with tool offsets changing or losing the tool data entirely. I did get a Z-axis soft limit just before this happened. Was there a solution to this issue? I have not tried to replicate it at all yet, just seeing if there were any other similar reports in the forum.

That problem was with version 4.0 software. G3 is now on v5.03 so more than likely it was fixed in the intervening upgrades.
If you are not running v5.03 or later on a G3 then upgrade and check if it is still faulting.

I have a G2 controller in my lathe. I am running the latest available v3.51 so chances are that bug was present since it is a version older than than 4.0 software. Is there a workaround? Or even clearer steps to reproduce so I can avoid triggering the bug.
