TTL Outputs limits

Is there any way on connecting more outputs to a Masso, I m looking at the Masso 6 way relay modules, now it appears that the masso can take three of these boards (18 outputs) as in its description is it possible to add more, the machine I currently have appears to have 18 outputs already being used on its controller cards, and I still had a few things I wanted to add to the machine, am I missing something, possibly some of the outputs I currently have may be able to be controlled through another method on the Masso

18 TTL outputs is a lot of stuff being driven by a CNC controller. Are these all unique outputs? People have driven two relay inputs from a single MASSO output.

What sort of machine are you dealing with and do you know what all the individual outputs from the previous controller drove?

Hi there, it s a Hafco VM100,

currently it has two 12 output relay boards so 24 relays total switched from the controller. I had more of a look last night and some of the things I might be able to take off and not switch with a masso. Ie if I replace the current drives with DMM or something I might be able to put all the axis enables through one relay output.

I want to add another coolant system to it, machine status light tower, a 4th or 5th axis setup (possible hyd locking) etc

For a start your outputs 1 - 4 should be connected to the ES TTL output so that frees up 4 TTL outputs.

What does 5 do? MASSO uses an internal spindle run up/down timer to control gcode movement after M3/4 command.

8? Drive power should be on when MASSO powers up.

10? Work lamp? Can be controlled manually outside of MASSO.

So that's 7 TTL outputs freed up.

You will still need a relay in the MASSO relay module to control the ES output, so from 3 modules you will have 17 relays available and as Zombie stated several relays can be driven of one TTL output. So if you need more relay outputs, add an extra relay module to the build.

Sorry what do you mean many ES TTL output what s the ES .

Zombie stated several relays can be driven of one TTL output I take it from that that the one TTL output has enough power to activate several relays at once if they are in a circuit that could be switched on all at the same time.

sorry if these questions are stupid, I m new to the building side of CNC.

It sounds like you are evaluating if a MASSO Touch / G3 controller is suitable for your setup.

Have a look at the photo on the the Powering MASSO G3 controller documentation page. On the bottom left are the 18 TTL outputs plus the ES (Emergency Stop) TTL output (immediately left of the orange spindle terminal block). The ES TTL output mirrors the Emergency Stop input / MPG Pendant Emergency Stop button.

A single TTL output can be wired to two or more inputs of the MASSO relay board.

So going through the list for the machine with the new wiring layout for Masso this is what Iam looking at for inputs and outputs. Hoping I haven t missed out anything as Ive run out of outputs. I would also like to be able to control the coolant via G code in the programs. The Enclosure Lights could be done remotely as well as the chip conveyor if necessary just means I would need to make an extra panel up of switches. Hoping there s a way to wire all the 5 Drive alarms to the one input. Is this possible ?

Mac,

Some quick thoughts.

Output 14 can be part of the ES output, which is the 19th pin in the TTL output bundle.
Output 13 could that be part of the spindle CW & CCW output. It will require an external relay driver circuit.
Output 22 could be part of the power up of MASSO, turn ON MASSO enclosure lights come ON.

Inputs 4,6 & 8 don't exist on MASSO so you need to include them into inputs 3,5 & 7.
Drive alarms can be included into one input, your choice of which one to use.

Good Points you raise Breezy, I should be able to put the upper and lower limit sensor from each axis into the one input as you stated.
I will have to have a better look at it, each axis has the limit switch sensor in the middle and the bumps at each end, not sure why there is two sensors. One might be its original form of soft limits and the other max limits, it will only be the Z that has another position, as it has one for when the heads in the tool change position as well.
Drive Alarms working combined is good.
should just be able to squeeze it all in,

should have my rotary axis next week so once that turn up I ll see what sensors and that it has, I was only guessing when I wrote up that last list. Thanks for your input.
