USB 3.0 Problems

In August of this year, I purchased a Masso 4 axis CNC Controller. I have noted that every time I use a USB 3.0 flash drive to try to load files, the Masso screen interface freezes up. I have no mouse control. As soon as I remove the flash drive, I recover mouse control.

I have the same result with any 3.0 flash drive. All drives are configured as FAT32. When I insert a 2.0 flash drive I never have a problem.

Note that this is only on the Masso USB port for uploading machine files. On the Masso port for peripherals, I have connected a USB 3.0 four port hub. I plug my mouse and keyboard into that and I do not have the same problem.

NOTE: I have a Neewer 15" touch screen monitor but the touch function is not compatible with Masso (yes, I do have the Masso touch screen software upgrade installed). I have to use a wired mouse. I am not sure if is relevant to the issue stated above but I include it just in case it is.

Does anyone know how to cure this or know what is causing the problem?

Thanks,

Jim

@jaykayeh

Several users have had problems with USB drives and ports because of electrical interference. Maybe a photo of the layout in your elect box would help to decide if that could be the trouble. Have you found a USB flash drive that does work without problems?

we are using USB 3 drives with MASSO and never had an issue. Can you please provide more details about the make and model of the drives?

What brand of flash drive are you using?
Is the 4 port hub powered?
Have you plugged the flash drive directly into the flash drive port (the top one) on the G2 and the hub with mouse into the keyboard port?

Hi robotman

Can you provide more information please?
  • What version MASSO are you using G2 or G3
  • Why for you have the flash drive plugged into a Hub? It should be on it's own port
  • What do you mean you are swapping mouse and flash drive?
  • From you description is sounds like you are unplugging the Flash drive. If this is the case then the Gcode program will not run or will stop running and will not restart until you plug back in the flash drive and reload the Gcode file again.

Its a G2
I have tried both ways, putting separate flash drive in its own port and coupling (by way of non-powered hub) keyboard and mouse in their own port. No matter what combination I use, when mouse and keyboard are connected screen locks.
Would you recommend powered hub?

I have never used a powered hub and you shouldn't really need one.
Have you tried a different hub?
Do you have another at home you can try?

Cheers Peter

So yesterday, I bought a wireless Keyboard and mouse combo, connected and everything works fine. Apparently,
both keyboard, mouse and hub are a load on the system. Didn't realize that would have been a problem, happy now though!
Want to thank you for your concern and helping

It's good that you got it sorted.
Now you see why I asked about the hub, sometimes the load from the hub is just too much.
Contrary to Peter, I only use powered hubs.
