WCS zero floats up

So, it seems that the Z floats up and up and up as the program runs. I set the Z at the bottom of the material, which was .250 thick. By the time my second op was done, the part that was supposed to be .125 ended up being about .06, The facing op was just air, and the drill didn't even go through the bottom (which was op 1). By the time the machine rehomed at M30 on the second op, it ran up against the hard stop (I don't currently have limit switches). I've calibrated the machine 3 times (the third didn't reset anything, ended up just confirming the first), reset all my tools each time.

Just curious is anyone else has had this issue? It doesn't seem to be mechanical, and I don't think it's a backlash issue because it's a ballscrew. Albeit Chinese, it still has essentially 0 backlash, and I never had this problem in Mach and ran hundreds of thousands of lines of code.

  • Can you please let us know what software version you are running and your controller serial number please.
  • Does this happen to all the jobs you run or just one type of job?

Hello! I m running V3.33 and Masso #5A-2405

I ve only tried to run this one job as it s the one I need to get out to the customer, but I ve ran it multiple times and I get the same thing. Op1 is a partial retract drilling cycle. This is when I first noticed a problem. It s programmed to go through the bottom of the .25 part but I hasn t done it yet.

op2 and 3 are 2D adaptive

op4 is slotting with a 4* ramp

5 and 6 and 2D contours. I haven t got to these yet because of the other issues.

I checked the accuracy of my Z axis after I calibrated them. On MDI they work fine. I set up a dial indicator with the Z near the table and zeroed both the indicator and Z. Then I ran through MDI: Z3, then Z0, Z2.25, Z0, etc and they all came back to Z0 within .001, but then as soon as I run the part, this happens. I think it may be worthy of noting that I m lowering the federate via override (F11+ -).

As embarassing as it is, the spindle was spinning backwards. I have flood coolant and it was just a peck drill cycle, so I never expected to see any chips, but turns out the spindle was spinning backwards. Thanks for all of your help @masso-support !!
