What CAM software is everyone using for MASSO

Just wanted to get a feel for what everyone's using.

I have an old pre CAM version of SolidWorks for my modeling and drawing but I am still looking for a good CAM.. so far I'm trialing

-Vcarve V9, EstIcam V11 and Fusion 360 (Vcarve seems the nicest so far)

3, 2, 1 GO

G;day Patchlead. I have been using solidworks for all my drawings.

I have been using sheetcam the last few years for my cam work with Mach 3 and the last 6 months with Masso. Save part as a dxf and import to sheetcam.

Initially got sheetcam for my plasma however found it worked well with my Mill. Easy to use and some good tutorials around, helps that it wasn't expensive as well. I believe Arclight website have the videos from memory

You could also try Fusion 360, I have used this a couple of times with Masso but am so used to sheetcam, easy profiling, pocketing and drilling etc.

So the questions to ask when selecting the CAD or CAM package is:
  1. What will you be making, will it be 3D, 2D or engraving jobs such as flowers etc.
  2. For example making engraving designs on a standard CAD package is not a good idea.
  3. So it all depends on what you are trying to machine.

I've been using Aspire Pro V 9.0 for my complex designs like coat of arms etc, and fusion 360 for more basic geometrical shapes, but really Aspire can do everything for my machine.

I want to do lots of types, not just a fixed set. I love my 3D modeling, so the ability to turn them into physical is important. But also 2D and V-carving will probably be a good line for quick cutting and lables

the biggest restriction is $$ but.. it gets harder the more it costs, I'm probable be of up to 1K at a pinch.. over that i will need to sell a production run before buying it..

I'll have a look at Sheetcam for my flat works. Aspire pro maybe out of my range this year...

Someone also mentioned that you can use BobCAD for both 3D modeling and engraving designs, haven't used it so cant really say but it might be worth looking at.

Have heard very good things about Rhino 3D software.

They have a full working 90 day version that you can try out.

PatchLead, I'm using the student version of Solidworks 2016 (licensed from TAFE) and free version of HSMWorks for my CAM with the Fanuc post.. It is only 2.5D.. I haven't run any of the code yet, but it looks clean

I'm trying to get a student licence for HSMWorks to get 3D

Fusion 360...you cant go past it for ease of use and its free of course if its for hobby use. Even if you do pay for it the software is stupidly cheap anyway

Just select Fanuc generic for the post processor....it just works so well with the Masso. Never had any issues at all

Has anyone in Australia managed to get Fusion 360 on this magic hobby option? It only seems to be available in the USA server not AU...

BobCad/Cam...not a great name but solid software for the money. Easy to change post processors to create code the way u need and fairly intuitive to learn
