Ian,

MASSO triggers the associated logic when the logic input goes high, as the logic input can be inverted to suit the electrical state change, the choice is up to you, based on how you wish to wire the physical input.

The manual shows how wire the 4 types, the only thing with their diagram is that the resistor is NOT optional, you will need a 5.6k 1/8W resistor.

I have purchased the same probe. Mine is a 5v version. I have looked at the inputs and wiring ok but did you manage to wire one up? My questions are 1. Do you need a separate 5v supply (my version is 5v) or can you pick up a 5v supply from the board(s)? Secondly, do I just solder the input wire to one of the spare inputs since I can t see any connectors? Mine is a Sherline supplied system running their CNC Lathe and CNC Mill.

I doesn t look anything like the orange plated MASSO s but two pcb s piggy backed together. I don t want to muck the system up. I wondered if I could ,are use of the 15 pin AUX connector if anyone can assist I would appreciate it. It s the physical wiring I m interested in. The software and setting outputs seems clear enough.

Sherline already documented this (indirectly): Adding a Relay from the Sherline/MASSO CNC Controller
Wiring Information for an Additional Relay from the Controller DB9 (FEMALE) Connector on circuit board:​


  1. X Home Input
  2. Y Home Input
  3. Z Home Input
  4. A Home Input
  5. B Home Input
  6. Tool Setter Input (for auto tool zero). Has an internal pull up resistor, and this input, when grounded will give touch signal.
  7. Touch Plate Input (to find edge of workpiece). Has an internal pull up resistor, and this input, when grounded will give touch signal.
  8. Optional Relay (output) for relay coil.
  9. 24v (output) for relay coil & for homing switch inputs.

Grab a screwdriver and open up the DB9 connector and trace the wiring. :)

Look on eBay for "USB Cable Screw Terminal" which should bring up a cable with a USB cable at one end and a terminal block on the other. The + terminal will be 5V, the - terminal should be Masso ground (0V)

Many thanks for all the replies. I have sent an email to Karl at Sherline. It seems it may be easier than I thought with two wires already installed. I'll post back here when I get some feedback. Thanks again.

Hi,

I am pleased to say following advice and support from Australia, America and Poland I now have a working probe, so thanks for all your help. In the end though all my problems came from an unexpected source.

Sherline informed me that pin 7 on my Masso (supplied through them) was the correct input and it was prewired. With only 3 wires or so It should have been sorted fairly easily but even with all the advice/solutions from everyone it wouldn't work.

Getting more confused every minute I decided to ground each input to see what triggered in F1. Was very surprised when the prewired wires didn't match. I found that pin 7 was linked to pin 6 in F1 screen.

Connecting the probe to the correct pin it worked, at least when the probe was triggered. Testing on a bore and the Z axis, every thing worked as it should. So that ended the day with a win! I left the testing of the outside probing till the next day.

Full of confidence I set about checking the outside probe functions. However, instead of moving to the correct face, it moved away! Raising this phenomenon here I was informed that I was two updates behind. Installing the latest should sort the problem since the Probe routines had been rewritten.

Following the Masso help video the latest stable release was installed, and following testing today ...... it all works!!

So thanks to all who have helped me. I have received excellent support from all suppliers and this forum. Now I can finally start the projects!
