XYZ touch probe

Does anyone have any recommendations, please, for a good, reliable, touch probe that I can buy and wire into my G3?

I looked around at the various probes available, settled on topcom.cz product. Clever arrangement of white to blue leds and a magnetic cable attachment! Luk was very helpful.

After considerable effort I seem to have my probe working! In the end it was a wiring issue not of my making. Pin 7 was the one I was told to connect the probe (a Slavtec.eu probe) too. When in fact pin 7 was actuating pin 6! I only found this out after going through each input pin and seeing what showed up in F1 setup screen. As soon as I connected it to pin 6 then everything seemed to work.

I ran the centre finding procedure and also the z axis position and it was a pleasure to watch after several hours of frustration. So I stopped there and decided to carry on today and run all the probe positions.

So whilst the centre finding and the Z axis work fine, I found outside corners and/or sides is not working. It moves the x or y axis away from the stock! Has anyone any idea why this should be or how I can correct it? The machining of any part works fine in all axis so it not a reverse motor issue.

Any help would be appreciated before I ask Masso themselves.

Mike,

It's not reverse motors but it could be reversed MCS.

Look at the probing screen on the bottom corners X is moving in negative direction and the top it is positive. With Y, left side is positive and right is negative.
Do you have your MCS setup with X going positive to the right and Y going positive away from you?

Many thanks for your reply. I checked again this morning and finding the inside center works fine. I took a picture of the screen below but if I read your advice right then the MCS is correct (?).

I don t know if I m using the diagram right now. I took the orientation of the table to be reflective of the screen? If I go to use the opposite end of the table then I think it works

Mike,

From your photo I can see that you are running v3.47.4 Sherline mill version.

Now if I have it correct on the Sherline Mill the table moves in relation to the spindle, so a positive X move, moves the table to the left and a positive Y move, moves the table towards you. If that is not happening then the MCS zero point is set incorrectly, when the table is fully to the right and back then the MCS should be reading zero for X & Y, which is what the MASSO display shows.

There have been two updates since v3.47.4 was released on 9th June 2020.
v3.48 - 2nd Oct 2020.
v3.49 - 29th Jan 2021 and beta release v3.49.07b 22nd July 2021.

From the v3.48 release notes you can see that the probing routine was rewritten.

I know what Ill be doing tomorrow. I take it I can update the software by going to the latest rather than one at a time? I ll check out the Sherline issue as well. Thanks for the support,
