Z0 not repeating

Hello everyone, I've got a Masso G2 for a small Lathe, all its doing is facing a hex bolt, my program has a infinite loop at the end, but after about 6 or 7 parts it loses Z0 and completely misses the face. So I have to rehome it and start again.

Anyone have any ideas on what could be going on.

Thank you, Bob

@masbobso

I can think of 3 different failure modes:
  • Software issue in the controller
  • Tool has moved in the tool holder
  • Stepper motor has missed a few steps under load

To confirm/deny it is a software issue I would do the following:
  • Calibrate the lathe and tool
  • Cut one bolt but leave it in the chuck
  • Run another 10 "parts" with the cutting tool just cutting air
  • Cut a final bolt to see if the error is present (equal to having cut 10 bolts)

If the error is present then you need to e-mail Masso directly (https://docs.masso.com.au/getting-support/reporting-bugs-and-issues)

If it is hardware related: I am currently working on writing up some notes for stepper motors after upgrading my mill (selection & tuning), should be posting it in a couple of days.
